THE GRADUATE
Benjamin Braddock graduated from small eastern college on
day in June. When he went home, his parents make a party for him and invite
several of their partners. When the party begins, Benjamin didn’t want to go
out from his room. His parents ask him to get down the stairs and meet the
guests, Mr. Terhune and Mr. Robinsons.
He doesn’t talk a lot to the guest, just nodding and shook his head. After
having party Mrs. Robinsons ask him to take her home. Then he drove her home.
arriving at her home Mrs. Robinson asked him to get in and accompany her to
wait her husband home by the reasons that she was afraid to be alone. When they
were in the house, Mrs. Robinson persuaded him to make out, but Benjamin
refused it. She invited him to the stairs to see the Elaine’s picture, her
daughter. Then her husband arrived in the house. Mr. Robinson invited Benjamin
to have some drink. After that Benjamin asked permission to back home.
During the next week, Benjamin spent most of his time walk
back and forth around his house, specially when he got birthday. Arnolds, Peter
and Louise came over to Mr. Braddock’s house. His parents gave him a special
give which it was put in the box. He opened and took the things on it. It was a
diving suit. His parent asked him to try it in the pool beside his house. Then
he tried.
In the early morning Benjamin asked permission to his
parents that he wanted to go out, when his parents invited Mr. Robinson to have
some dinner in their house.
Several days later, Benjamin arrived in this house. He told
that he went to the north and got job and salary $5 per hour. N the next day
when he got depressed he called Mrs. Robinson to have some drink and dinner at
the Taft Hotel. Then Mrs. Robinson asked to book the room for them. When in the
room Mrs. Robinson persuaded and forced him to make affair. Then they did at
that night.
In the next, he spent his time at home, watching television,
drinking, and swimming. His father turned off the television and said some
advices to his son. And also the father forbade his son to go out every night.
Then Benjamin sent Mrs. Robinson a letter that he could not see her at that
night. In the next day they always did the same meeting in the Taft Hotel.
Several days were through. In the dinner table, Mr. Braddock
said that Elaine would get holiday. He asked Benjamin to phone her. And finally
he invited Elaine to get some dinner outside. Many places they visited and that
night. He was afraid to his mother
because he had already promised not to marry her daughter.
Finally he made the decision that he wanted to marry Elaine.
His parents were very happy to hear that statement because it would make the
partner between Braddock and Robinson more closed. Then he went to Berkeley,
the Elaine school to propose Elaine. Several weeks he was there, but he was
afraid off. When he met her, she had already known what he did to her mother,
but what she tells was different than the real story. Her mother and her father
forbade Elaine to meet Benjamin, because of the rudeness of him. Elaine met her
boyfriend, Carl Smith in the zoo. They wanted to get married.
Benjamin got a telegram from Mrs. Robinson. She wanted him
to call her. Benjamin looked for a ring that he wanted to give to Elaine. He
forced Elaine to marry him as soon as possible, but that canceled because Mr.
Robinson arrived there, met him and picked Elaine up home. Mr. Braddock arrived
there and asked him to back home with him. After he got letter from Elaine that
she loved him so much even he did bad thing to their family that it make Mr.
Robinson and his wife going to divorce.
The next Saturday, Benjamin got letter from Carl Smith which
was written down that they wanted to merry at the church on Allen street at 8
o’clock, Saturday morning. Benjamin came to that place and invited Elaine to
run away. Finally they got on the bus.
